Interesting that Harry Truman was a last minute choice to be Vice President. Franklin Roosevelt did not even know who he was. When he became president in 1945 after FDR's death, he had as stressful of a first year in office as anybody in US history, with the end of hostilities in Europe, but with the beginning of the Cold War, the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and trying to lead the US from a war time mentality to a peace time mentality. All of this from a guy who was an obscure VP pick.

You have to wonder how a guy like Truman would have fared today with 24/7 news media coverage coupled with a quick temper and a blunt personality.
